India Cotton Export

The government of India will permit the export of 2 million 500 thousand bales of cotton from January 11th, and the registration time for export contracts will start from December 31st to January 6th.


The Ministry of foreign trade (DGFT), which is under the Ministry of Commerce, will start accepting new registration for 7 days, with a deadline of January 6th.


Business secretary Rahul Khullar revealed to the media that

The window is reopened, and about 2 million 500 thousand bales of cotton have not yet been exported.

This will be distributed through electronic applications.


This year, the government has allowed 5 million 500 thousand bales of cotton (170 kilograms) to be exported, of which 3 million packages have been exported.


The government allows export of 5 million 500 thousand packages in the 2010-11 cotton year (-9 October).

However, due to the occurrence of off-season precipitation in some major cotton producing areas, the time for cotton to arrive in the spot market has been postponed, and exporters have not been able to export all the quantities at the predetermined time.


The export deadline was in December 15th.

Later, the government decided to give exporters more time to complete the remaining export.

The General Administration has made it clear that only after the examination and approval application can the registration certificate be allocated.


Khullar said applicants who complete the required documents within the limited time period will be able to get the registration certificate.

Export time is at least 30 days (January 11, 2011 -2 25).


He said that the applicant could submit documents from January 11, 2011, and if the exporter got the registration certificate on the same day, they could organize the export of cotton on that day.
